Most mornings, when I get up, I have a drink of orange juice. Then I set about my exercise routine. I get my breakfast and off to work I go… at my computer! The first thing I do is to read and reply to my email. But, the problem is that I get tons of the stuff. I literally get between 300 to 500 emails a day. The worst part is that most of it is a load of pure unadulterated load of hyped up junk. What a pain in the a**!
So, what do you think I do?
Yeah! You guessed it. I delete it. I just don’t have the time, nor the inclination to read through it. Put it this way, do you read every email you get?
No! I didn’t think so. So, what emails do you read?
Chances are that you look at the “Subject Lines”. Whichever ones catch your eye, or peek your interest, are the ones you open. The question is “how do you get others to open YOUR email?”
The Subject Line: To get your email opened, you must have a good hook. The hook is something that creates curiosity and excitement. Its objective is to get your email opened and possibly read. Effectively, your hook is your subject line.
What Should A Subject Line Have? It should have few words as possible. Long drawn out subject lines put people off. It needs to be seen and read at a glance. The words used should initiate an emotional response.
Getting Your Email Opened: Let me ask you, which of these statements are you more likely to react to and open if they were the subject lines of some of your emails?
1. Increase Your Profits! 2. Increase Your Profits by 200%! 3. Increase Your Profits by 200% in 3 Days!
Most likely you will opt for #3 above. Why?
Because it not only states the benefit of increasing your profits, but it also states by how much. In other words… by 200%. Not only that, it gives a time limit within which this can be achieved. In other words… within 3 Days. So, what has just happened here?
The Biggest benefit was advertised: “Increase Your Profits”. It also revealed by how much: “200%”. It created curiosity and excitement by placing a time within which this can be done: “in 3 Days”.
The formula: Biggest Benefit x How Much x Time Frame = Email opened.
So when you look at these three statements, would you rather increase your profits by 200% or increase your profits by 200% in 3 Days?
In conclusion, the first statement is too vague and is unlikely to get a second glance, let alone your email opened. The second statement could go either way. Perhaps the reader might decide to wait until later to read it. You know what this means? It’s forgotten about. With the third statement your email will have a very good chance of being opened NOW, rather than later. It isn’t hard to create good headlines. Just look at your product and apply the formula above to it to suit your goal. ==================================================== Please feel free to publish this article in your ezine, newsletter or on your web site as long as the content, links and bio remain unchanged. ==================================================== Tony Farrell helps people who want to improve their small business marketing strategies to make even more money online.
